Yahoo Offering Free Websites for U.S. Businesses for their Yahoo! Local Listings

Yahoo has just announced they are offering a free website with (Yahoo! Local Listings) for every U.S. based business. I have to say that I am a big fan of local search as it can help out the local business greatly without having to worry about competiting for those extremely competitive keyword phrases, when they only want to target people in their own local area.

This is a great for companies that want to test out the waters in the world of internet marketing without having to invest too much time or money. It is still surprising the number of local businesses that are yet not online. Hopefully this will encourage them to take advantage of this offer.

This is a great first step to see if this is something that will work for their line of business. For most that find it is working, it can lead to bigger and better things for them on the net.

For local search to really take off, search engines like Google and Yahoo will need more of the local businesses that currently do not have an online portal to start one up. It will be interesting to see when Yahoo launches Local search for Canada and the effect it will have.
