Windows Marketplace, Be careful where you shop!
Ok, many of you like myself over the past few months with some
update from Microsoft, probably found a new link in your favorites
called Windows Marketplace. First off, I have to say, I'm not
the biggest Microsoft fan, or MSN for that matter. Curiosity got the
better of me with Windows Marketplace and just wondering, what
are they offering anyways. When going to the site, even though
there are free things on the site (somewhere to be found). I found
it very easy to find things that they were selling, and over priced
from what I could see. But that wasn't what really bothered me.
There was a link to a download to a desktop theme for SpongeBob
SquarePants from Download.com. I decided to read the download
reviews, and found that the download file is in fact infected with a
virus. So, if you don't have a virus scanner installed, chances are
you are already infected with some virus. No matter how careful you
think you are, a virus will find you, and when it does you should
have a virus scanner installed. So, seeing how popular Spongebob
SquarePants is, and the infected site having a top high traffic link
from a Microsoft site, chances are there are many upon many
newly infected sites over the past few weeks. Hopefully Microsoft
will be reading their emails and actually monitoring the sites that
they link to to ensure that the sites are in-fact safe. This is one
of the ultimate bate and switch routines, having a major player such
and Microsoft helping you infect numerous sites is devastating.
