Google's Link Bombing & its Big Failure
Just how effective has link building be in helping determine a
websites rankings? With the use of Link Bombing, it can be quite
effective. Link bombing essential is using keywords in links
pointing back to the intended page from another website. With the
use of link bombing, you can have a page rank for a keyword phrase
that is not present on the page. Lets examine a somewhat well know
example in the SEO world.
If you search for the phrase miserable failure, in Google.
The first listing will be from www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html,
and yes it’s the official site for the white house. If you click on
the cached link just below the listing, it takes you to a snap shot of the page when Google
last visited the site, also it mentions that “These terms only
appear in links pointing to this page: miserable failure”.
Now if you search the text on the page, miserable failure does
not appear on the page, this page is ranking based on the number of
links pointing back to the site with the phrase miserable failure in
the link. You can find the same #1 ranking on MSN and Yahoo for the
phrase miserable failure.
So, now what has happened is enough links now point back for the
same thing to happen for the word failure when you search Google.
Very interesting stuff I must say, personally with the past 6-9
months, with how slow Google is to update compared to MSN and Yahoo,
it would be very funny for people to link bomb Google using the
phrase Wayback Machine. If you are not familiar with the Wayback
Machine, it takes snap shots of websites and stores it in a database
and you can check out sites online and the chances they've undergone
of its history. Gerard Manning
