The Importance of Having Unique Content

Previously, I talked about the problem with mirror sites and duplicate content. Today, I will touch on this a little further hopefully helping those that might take a page from someone else's site just so they can get some quick content, to show them the problem with this and what they should do.

Where Are You Getting The Content From?

First of all, when you are creating a website, naturally you will need to have content for your viewers to see and so you can get your message across to them. The easy way out some people tend to take, is to take content from other peoples websites. First of all, if you do not have permission to do so, then you can run into problems and a little something called plagiarism.

The Problem With Taking Others Content

Even if you have permission to take other people content, this content will most likely not do much to actually help your site in the search engines. It will be seen as duplicate content. Search engines can very easily detect duplicate content. One way for you to check for duplicate content is with Copyscape. This is a great little program and its good to see if anyone has copied your site without your permission.

Why You Should Invest the Extra Time/Money

So with your website, you've spent X amount of dollars and/or time, don't stop there, continue on with developing new and unique content for your website. Doing this early on, will do wonders for your site and help with people finding your site.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have unique content for your site, don't take the easy way out and take text from another site. While it may get your website finished quicker and online, it would be worth it in the long run to get it done right in the first place.
